Do NOT make New Year resolutions

This quote feels especially important right now.

Because this week… just days before the New Year… so many of us are staring at the entire staircase:

  • The list to-do lists.
  • The expectations.
  • The resolutions.

And honestly? That pressure alone is enough to knock your nervous system straight into survival mode.

But here’s the truth:

You don’t need a BIG plan for next year.
You don’t need a “new version” of yourself.
You don’t need to fix everything.

You just need one small step that creates a little more room inside your nervous system.

Because when parents burn out, it’s rarely from one big thing, right?
It’s from carrying too much for too long.

Trying to stay calm while exhausted.
Trying to be patient while overstimulated.
Trying to regulate while your system is already maxed out.

So instead of asking yourself, “How do I do this better?”

Try asking something gentler this week:

👉 “What’s one small thing that would make this feel 5% easier?”

Not perfect. Not fixed. Just easier.

Maybe it’s one pause before responding.
Maybe it’s letting something go that truly doesn’t matter.
Maybe it’s stepping outside for 60 seconds and breathing.

That single step counts… even if it feels really small. Because regulation doesn’t come from doing more.

It comes from creating more capacity.
