Dread spending time with your kids?

Jul 17, 2025

Hello, Happy Human! 👋

We're here with our weekly 3 things...

1️⃣ A question from our community

2️⃣ Our actionable tips

3️⃣ A resource from our toolkit

1. The question

"I dread spending time with my kids and I hate that I feel this way, but it’s like I’m constantly on edge whenever I’m around them and don’t know what to do."

2. Our answer

Yup… we’ve been there!

So first off… when you’re constantly on edge around your kids, please know that it’s not really a mindset problem, but instead, a nervous system one.

Your brain might want to stay calm… but if your body’s stuck in that kind of stress mode, your fuse will stay short, your tone will get sharp, and joyful time with the kids will feel virtually impossible.

So the goal…

Implement a Nervous System Reboot BEFORE you know you’re going to be around the kids.

Just like you wouldn’t walk into a difficult meeting without taking a breath, the idea is you don’t want to walk into high-stimulation parenting moments (e.g., pickups, dropoffs, or really ANY transition) without giving your nervous system the reboot it desperately needs.

For example…

👉 Before walking into the room:

  • Stop outside the door.
  • Plant your feet.
  • Inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 4.
  • Say silently, “I CAN keep my cool around their chaos.”

👉 Before picking up your kid from daycare/camp/school:

  • Put a hand over your heart.
  • Shake out your arms or legs.
  • Remind yourself, “They don’t need my perfection. They just need my presence.

👉 Before ending your scroll (no shame) to walk back into the chaos:

  • Set your phone down with intention.
  • Roll your shoulders back.
  • Take 3 deep sighs.
  • Then go in.

You’ll be amazed at the shifts you’ll see when you enter these moments differently.

And yeah… you might still get whining, fights, tantrums, and meltdowns…

But your capacity to handle it all (and even enjoy your kids through it) WILL grow.

These tiny reboots (that take just a minute or two) can change EVERYTHING. ❤️

3. From our toolkit

If this resonated with you and you’re craving more real-world, guilt-free strategies to help you stay calm and actually enjoy your kids again…

👉 Join us for our FREE ‘Rapid Fire Q&A’ Webinar!

We’ll be digging into the real struggles that so many parents are afraid to say out loud:

❓ “My mom keeps saying… ‘If you don’t punish your kids, they’ll never learn.’ I don’t want to always be threatening or dishing out consequences, but what else can I do?”

❓ “What if I don’t feel like a good parent, and no matter what I do, the guilt just never goes away?”

❓ “I love my kids, but honestly dread being around them most days. I hate how reactive I get, like they trigger something in me that I can’t control. What can I do to turn things around?”

✅ You’ll walk away with:

  • Easy-to-implement tools to stop yelling in the moment (without needing a 3-hour meditation first)
  • A better understanding of what’s happening in your nervous system (and how to interrupt the cycle)
  • Scripts to use when your kid is melting down and your own inner child is triggered
  • A fresh take on discipline that doesn’t rely on punishment, fear, or threats
  • A new sense of hope that things can change (without needing to change your entire life)

💬 “I feel like I cry at all of your webinars. You help me feel seen, supported, and you give me the exact steps I need to take right when I need them. Thank you!” – Alyssa
