Spread too thin?

Hello, Happy Human! 👋

We're here with our weekly 3 things...

1️⃣ A question from our community

2️⃣ Our actionable tips

3️⃣ A resource from our toolkit

1. The question

“I’m so overwhelmed and there just isn’t enough of me to go around. I feel like I go to bed every night replaying all of the things I didn’t get to or ways that I screwed up and the weight of it all is just so crushing.”

2. Our answer

Yup… we know that feeling all too well. But here’s the truth:

👉 You can’t do it all.

And psychology backs this up. Donald Winnicott (a pediatrician and psychoanalyst), introduced the idea of “good enough parenting.”

His research showed that kids don’t need flawless parents that do it all. What they need are parents who show up for the essential moments most of the time.

What this means is…

👉 Some things we NEED TO LET GO OF knowing that they won’t lead to lasting harm (like being late for an activity, serving up fast food for dinner, forgetting to sign a form). Life is going to go on just fine.

But some things are more non-negotiable

👉 Responding to your kid’s emotional bids (“can you lie with me one more minute?”), repairing when you’ve snapped, offering connection when they’re struggling… these are the essentials that require our attention almost always (never expect perfection).

The idea of “good enough parenting” is all about knowing the difference between which things we can let go of, and which we need to hold on tight to. Not striving for any sort of flawless perfection, but protecting the moments that matter most.

When we’re able to let go of some things, we actually free up the capacity to show up with more presence, warmth, and regulation to the moments that matter most.

And if you're interested in learning more about “good enough parenting”...
